Hoop & Grapes pub, Farringdon
A £1.8m restoration of the Hoop & Grapes, a Grade II-listed pub dating back to 1721, brought back to life after six years closed.
The job, as it ran
The brief
The Hoop & Grapes in Farringdon closed in 2019 because of redevelopment in the area. Shepherd Neame set out to reopen it as a pub with three distinct spaces, keeping the building's history at the front of the design.
What we did
The restoration began in October 2025. The pub now has a classic ground-floor bar with a courtyard garden, a first-floor seating space with a covered and heated terrace, and a third-floor piano room for dining and special occasions. The kitchen moved from the cellar to the second floor to make room for new customer facilities below, and back-of-house gained energy-efficient fridges, smart cellar technology and LED lighting. A new wedding-themed swing sign and hand-painted signage reflect the building's history.

The reopening was reported by The Morning Advertiser in January 2026.
