Work that is still there next month

You know the other sort of firm. Flat out for a fortnight, then the phone goes quiet and you are ringing round again. Good money one month and nothing the next is not good money.

SG has been building since 2005 with a settled team — the same faces on site, week in, week out. Twenty years in Caterham, and moved down the road to Godstone this spring. Pub fit-outs for national operators one month, an extension on a Surrey house the next.

We are not always hiring, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can do is know about you before the next role goes out.

Why people stay

Six things, and the reason behind each one.

The same faces, week in, week out

SG runs a settled team rather than a new crew every job. You will know who is on site with you on Monday, and they will know you. That is the difference between a trade you enjoy and one you tolerate.

The work is priced and programmed before you get there

The scope is written, the materials are ordered and the sequence is set before anyone turns up. So you are doing your trade, not standing in a car park waiting for somebody to decide what is happening.

Real trades, kept in-house

Roofing, carpentry, plastering, and kitchen and bathroom fitting are on our own books — not farmed out. If that is what you do, you would be doing it here, not managing somebody else doing it.

Local work, not a two-hour commute

Domestic work stays within about ten miles of the office — Caterham for twenty years, Godstone since this spring — and commercial runs across the South East. You are not spending two hours of your own time getting to a site.

Still here since 2005

Twenty years, through two recessions. Plenty of firms your mates have worked for are not.

The variety without the chaos

Pub and bar fit-outs for national operators one month, an extension on a Surrey house the next. Different work, same team, same way of running a job.

What is open right now

Our trade vacancies are advertised and handled by YourRecruit, the Caterham agency we recruit through. Their board carries what is open right now, with the pay and the terms on each role.

Nothing on there that suits? That is what the form below is for — it is the only way to hear about a role before it is advertised.

First refusal

Tell us what you do

Five short steps. We keep it on file with your trade, your patch and what you are after, and pass it to YourRecruit so you are matched to a role rather than hunting for one.

Would rather talk? Ring the office on 01883 337 700.

Two minutes

Get in front of the next one

We are not always hiring. But when a role comes up that fits what you do, we would rather ring somebody we already know about than start from scratch. Tell us your trade and what you are after, and you hear before it goes on the board.

1. What do you do?

Closest fit is fine.

2. What are you after?

So we only ring you about the right sort of thing.

3. Where are you?

Most domestic work is within about ten miles of Godstone; commercial runs wider.

4. How do we reach you?

Your name, and a phone number or an email.

5. Anything else?

The last few jobs you have been on, or what you are hoping for next. A couple of lines is plenty.

Your details go to the office and to YourRecruit, the agency we recruit through, so they can match you to a role when one comes up. Nothing else. See the privacy notice.
