About SG Refurb

SG Refurb is a building and fit-out firm based in Godstone, at the foot of the North Downs in Surrey. We have been trading since 2005, and the work splits two ways: commercial fit-out for national pub, bar and hospitality operators, and refurbishment, extension and roofing work on homes across Surrey and the South East. Our own settled team does the building work, and the specialists we bring in for trades like electrics and groundworks are managed by us — so the people who quote your job are the people who see it through, and one firm stays answerable from first survey to final handover. Who we are

Godstone is a historic village on the A25, with a green and a pond at the foot of the North Downs, and the housing reflects it: solid Victorian and Edwardian properties with high ceilings and generous hallways, sitting alongside post-war and newer stock. We have worked on every type of them since 2005, so we know how these houses are put together and where the surprises tend to hide once the plaster comes off.

A settled team, not a rotating cast

What sets us apart is the make-up of the firm. Our own settled team does the building work — roofing, carpentry and joinery, plastering and the fitting of kitchens and bathrooms — rather than booking in whoever is free that week. For electrics, groundworks, plumbing and decorating we bring in approved subcontractors we have worked with for years we have worked with for years, all managed by us. That keeps the programme tight, and it means one firm stays answerable for the whole job rather than a rotating cast you are passed between.

One firm, answerable for the whole job

Before anyone lifts a tool, you get a quote that itemises the work and what it costs, in plain terms — nothing hidden, and nothing creeping onto the bill halfway through.

Who we work for

Our commercial work is pub, bar and hospitality fit-out for national operators, and refurbishment for landlords, estates teams and managing agents. That work runs to a date: strip-out, structure, services and finishes sequenced so the place reopens and trades.

How a job runs, step by step

The same order of work on every job, commercial or domestic: we survey it, we price it in writing, we build it, and we hand it over.

The survey

We come out and look at the job properly. We measure up, check the things that matter on older Godstone stock — solid walls, original timbers, roof condition, where services run — and talk through what you want from the finished result. On a trading site we also work out what has to stay open, what can be shut off,

The price, before work starts

You then get the price, broken down far enough to see what each part of the work costs and why it is there. Nothing is hidden inside a single round number. If you want to drop something or stage the work, you can see exactly what that changes. You know what you are paying for before a single tool comes

Our team builds it, every trade managed by us

What sets us apart Our own settled team does the building work — roofing, carpentry and joinery, plastering and the fitting of kitchens and bathrooms. For specialist trades like electrics, groundworks, plumbing and decorating we bring in firms we have worked with for years and manage them ourselves, so you are dealing with us rather than chasing a different outfit

One point of contact

You deal with one person for the whole job. You are not chasing three different trades for answers or wondering who is turning up when. Your contact knows the project inside out, keeps you posted on progress, and is the person to ring if something needs sorting. One number, one conversation, start to finish.

Handover and aftercare

At the end we walk the finished work with you, deal with any snags, and hand over the relevant certification where it applies. On a commercial job that includes the paperwork the operator needs in place before the doors open again. We are based on Godstone High Street and we are not going anywhere, so if a question comes up

What we cover

Commercial fit-out and maintenance across the South East

Pub, bar and hospitality fit-out is the work we do most of — trading refurbishments, bar builds, back of house and full interiors, priced as a programme and handed back ready to trade on the date agreed. Alongside it we work in hospitality, offices, retail, healthcare, education, housing associations. The services behind them are reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, refurbishments, heritage, frameworks. Commercial work is priced as a written schedule, element by element, so an estates team can check it against their own numbers instead of taking a single figure on trust.

Building, refurbishment and extensions for homeowners in Surrey

On the domestic side we take on kitchens, bathrooms, extensions, renovations, roofing, design and build, heritage, new build. Every job is surveyed before it is priced, and the quote is itemised so you can see what each part costs and why it is there. The trades we cover are carpentry and joinery, roofing, plumbing and heating, painting and decorating, general building. Our own settled team does the building work; specialist trades such as gas, heating and electrics are brought in and managed by us, so one firm stays answerable for the whole job from first survey to handover.

How far we travel, and why the two answers are different

Commercial and fit-out work goes wherever the estate is: London, Kent, Essex, Sussex, Surrey and down to the coast. On contract work distance is not the deciding factor, the programme is. Domestic work is deliberately tighter: homes within about ten miles of the Godstone office and no further — Warlingham, Kenley, Coulsdon, Oxted, Godstone, Horley, Kingswood, Redhill, Woldingham, Caterham, East Grinstead, Westerham, Purley — close enough that we can be back the same week after handover, which is the whole reason for keeping it tight.

Straightforward work and high specification work

We do both, and every photograph on this site is labelled so you can see which is which. A straightforward job is a replacement or a repair, standard specification, done properly. A high specification job is bespoke design, premium materials and a full design and build. Same firm, same paperwork, either way.

Insurance, and who is answerable

We carry £5 million public liability cover and £5 million employers’ liability cover, and certificates are available on request before work starts. One firm stays answerable for the whole job: we do not hand you to a chain of separate trades and step back.

Reactive and emergency call-outs

We take reactive and emergency work as well as planned programmes, on the commercial and the domestic side. The office is open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00.

Where we work

Two different answers, and the difference matters. Domestic work — extensions, kitchens, bathrooms, roofing and refurbishment on people’s own homes — is within about ten miles of the Godstone office and no further. Commercial fit-out and maintenance goes wherever the estate is: London, Kent, Essex, Sussex, Surrey and down to the coast, because on contract work the programme decides, not the mileage.

The kinds of home we work on

The housing round here mostly falls into a few sorts, and each throws up something different once you open it: period cottages with frames that have moved, Victorian and Edwardian solid walls, post-war stock where the work is about layout, and listed property where the council decides what changes outside.

Common questions

Q.01How long has SG Refurb been trading?

Since 2005 — building and fit-out work, run from our base at 27 High Street, Godstone, and covering Surrey, north London, Essex, Kent and Sussex.

Q.02What sort of work does SG Refurb take on?

Two strands. Commercial fit-out for pub, bar and hospitality operators, and for landlords, estates teams and managing agents; and residential work for homeowners — refurbishments, extensions, kitchens, bathrooms and roofing.

Q.03Does SG Refurb use subcontractors?

Our own settled team does the building work — roofing, carpentry and joinery, plastering and the fitting of kitchens and bathrooms. Specialist trades such as electrics, groundworks, plumbing and decorating are brought in and managed by us. Either way one firm stays answerable for the whole job, from the first survey to final handover, so there is only ever one firm to talk to about it.

Q.04Will I get a quote before any work starts?

Yes. We come out, take a proper look at the job and put the price in front of you before anyone lifts a tool — the work and what it costs, in plain terms, with no obligation. The firm that quotes your job is the firm that carries it out and stays answerable for it.

Q.05Which areas does SG Refurb cover?

Godstone, Caterham and the surrounding Surrey towns, and across the South East, from our base at 27 High Street, Godstone, Surrey, RH9 8LS. On a fit-out we go wherever the estate is — north London, Essex, Kent, Sussex and along the coast.
