Who we are

We have worked on every type of house round here since 2005. We know how they are put together, and where the surprises hide once the plaster comes off.

One firm, answerable for the whole job

If something needs putting right, you ring the same number and the same firm answers. You are not left working out whose job it was.

Who we work for

Commercial: pub and bar operators, landlords, property teams, managing agents, housing associations, schools and healthcare providers. Pubs and bars are the work we do most of, usually while the site is still trading.
Health and safety

Health, safety and fire compliance

Insurance

We carry £10 million public liability, £10 million employers’ liability and £10 million professional indemnity cover. Certificates are available on request before work starts.

02

One firm in charge of the site

We manage every trade on the job, with one of our surveyors running it from start to finish. There is one person answerable for how the site is run, not a chain of subcontractors.

03

Working in buildings that stay open

Pubs, shops, offices, schools and surgeries keep running while we work. The work is phased around the people using the building, and done out of hours where the building stays in use.

The ceiling is boarded in mixed timber and cut for two square rooflights above a dark veneer wall.
04

Fire safety and compliance

Work that affects fire safety, such as fire doors, compartment walls and escape routes, falls under Part B of the Building Regulations. Where a job needs building control approval, it is signed off before handover and the certificate comes with it.

05

Gas work and certificates

The certificate for any gas work comes from the registered engineer who carried it out. At handover you get the certificates that go with the work.

Older and listed buildings

Old buildings are surveyed before anything changes. In a listed building, most changes that affect its character need listed building consent before work starts.

How a job runs, step by step

The same order of work on every job, commercial or domestic: we survey it, we price it in writing, we build it, and we hand it over.

Every job runs through our own portal. See our job portal →

The survey

We come out and look at the job properly. We measure up, check the things that matter on older Godstone stock — solid walls, original timbers, roof condition, where services run — and talk through what you want from the finished result.

The price, before work starts

You then get the price in writing, itemised so you can see what each part of the work costs and why it is there. Nothing is hidden inside a single round number, and you know exactly what you are paying for before we start.

We build it, every trade managed by us

We manage every trade on the job, so you deal with us rather than chasing a different firm for every part of the work. The order of work is planned in one place: the plasterer knows when first fix is done, and the decorator is booked for when the plaster is dry.

One point of contact

You deal with one person for the whole job. You are not chasing three different trades for answers or wondering who is turning up when. Your contact knows the project inside out, keeps you posted on progress, and is the person to ring if something needs sorting. One number, one conversation, start to finish.

Handover and aftercare

At the end we walk the finished work with you, deal with any snags, and hand over the relevant certification where it applies. On a commercial job that includes the paperwork the operator needs in place before the doors open again.

What we cover

Commercial fit-out and maintenance across the South East

Pubs and bars are the work we do most of — trading refurbishments, bar builds, back of house and full interiors, handed back ready to trade on the date agreed. We also work in offices, retail, healthcare, education and housing associations, and take on framework work, heritage buildings, out-of-hours works, planned and reactive maintenance, and refurbishment and fit-out. Commercial work is priced as a written schedule, item by item, so a property team can check it against their own numbers.

Building, refurbishment and extensions for homeowners in Surrey

On homes we take on kitchens, bathrooms, extensions, renovations, roofing, design and build, heritage, general maintenance, garden rooms, landscaping, loft conversions and garage conversions. Every job is surveyed before it is priced, and the quote is itemised so you can see what each part costs. The trades we cover are bathrooms, brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, groundworks, heating, kitchens, plastering, plumbing, roofing, scaffolding and tiling, and we manage every trade on the job.

Straightforward work and high specification work

We do both. A straightforward job is a replacement or a repair to a standard specification, done properly. A high specification job is bespoke design, premium materials and a full design and build. Same firm, same paperwork, either way.

Insurance

We hold a full set of insurance across several policies, with over £20 million of cover between them. That includes £10 million public liability cover, for injury to anyone or damage to property while we work; £10 million employers’ liability cover, for the people who work for us; and £10 million professional indemnity cover, for the advice, design and specification we provide. Certificates for each policy are available on request before work starts.

Reactive and emergency call-outs

We take reactive and emergency work as well as planned work, on commercial and domestic jobs. Reactive commercial cover runs all year round, bank holidays included. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Domestic

The kinds of home we work on

Common questions

Q.01What work do you take on?

Commercial work across the South East, from reactive maintenance to full fit-outs, with pubs and bars the work we do most. On homes: extensions, kitchens, bathrooms, roofing, renovations, loft and garage conversions, garden rooms, landscaping, heritage, and design and build.

Q.02Will I get a price before any work starts?

Yes. We survey the job free of charge, then give you an itemised price in writing, so you know exactly what you are paying for before we start. There is no obligation.

About us

Our own job portal

We run every job through our own portal, from the survey and the price to the trades on site and the handover, so it is managed properly and effectively from start to finish.

How a job moves through our portal
What it does

Every job, managed in one place

Every enquiry logged

Every job starts as a request in the portal, and enquiries sent through this website go straight in. From then on the job keeps one record, all the way to the handover.

The survey feeds the price

The survey goes into the portal and the price is built from it, line by line. Everything noted on the survey carries through, so nothing is missed between the two, and the quote you get is itemised and in writing.

Signed off in order

On site, each step is signed off in turn. The portal will not let a job move on until every step is done, from the photos before, during and after the work to sign-off by the client and by our manager.

Work that is still there next month

Building since 2005 with a settled team — the same faces on site, week in, week out.

We are not always hiring, and we will not pretend otherwise. Register your trade and you hear about a role before it is advertised.

Why people stay

Three things, and the reason behind each one.

The same faces, week in, week out

We run a settled team rather than a new crew every job. You will know who is on site with you on Monday, and they will know you.

Priced and planned before you get there

The scope is written, the materials are ordered and the sequence is set before anyone turns up — so you are doing your trade, not waiting in a car park.

Local work, not a two-hour commute

Domestic work stays within about ten miles of the Godstone office; commercial runs across the South East.

What is open right now

Our trade vacancies are advertised and handled by YourRecruit, the Caterham agency we recruit through. Their board carries what is open right now, with the pay and the terms on each role.

Nothing on there that suits? That is what the form below is for — it is the only way to hear about a role before it is advertised.

First refusal

Tell us what you do

Five short steps. We keep it on file with your trade, your patch and what you are after, and pass it to YourRecruit so you are matched to a role rather than hunting for one.

Would rather talk? Ring the office on 01883 337 700.

Two minutes

Get in front of the next one

We are not always hiring. But when a role comes up that fits what you do, we would rather ring somebody we already know about than start from scratch. Tell us your trade and what you are after, and you hear before it goes on the board.

1. What do you do?

Closest fit is fine.

2. What are you after?

So we only ring you about the right sort of thing.

3. Where are you?

Most domestic work is within about ten miles of Godstone; commercial runs wider.

4. How do we reach you?

Your name, and a phone number or an email.

5. Anything else?

The last few jobs you have been on, or what you are hoping for next. A couple of lines is plenty.

Your details go to the office and to YourRecruit, the agency we recruit through, so they can match you to a role when one comes up. Nothing else. See the privacy notice.

Tell us what you're planning

Tell us what you are planning and we will come out, take a proper look and put a clear quote in front of you. No obligation, no pressure.
